Since its inception, in March 2010, Obsidian Theater (formerly Obsidian Art Space) has provided an affordable space for visual and performing artists’ creative works. Obsidian seeks to provide an environment in which artists’ creativity and imaginations may thrive. Winner of the Houston Named the Best New Arts Venue of 2011 by the Houston Press, we continue to serve Houston artists and the historic Heights community with our intimate and versatile black box space.
Check out our latest production of the 2018 season, the world premiere of “Wanda, Daisy, and the Great Rapture.” It’s a sticky hot summer in the swamplands of Pawley’s Island, South Carolina. Step-sisters Wanda and Daisy struggle to get by as the people they love disappear; Wanda’s mother has recently died, and Daisy’s father's mysterious illness worsens, and his obsession with an impending rapture intensifies. The girls try to repair their fractured relationship by summoning dark memories in hopes of finding a little light. A magical story about how we hold onto family, the past and ourselves while we seek better lives, and wait patiently as the Great Rapture hails us— or doesn’t.
Even though Oxford at Country Club Apartments in Baytown, Texas provides you with all of the comfort, convenience, and entertainment you could possibly desire, we encourage our residents to venture outside of our apartment community and explore all that the city has to offer!
