Tickle Your Funny Bone as the Theatre Southwest Presents Social Security

Theatre Southwest was born when Marie and Les Pearsall held a summer carnival in their backyard to raise money for a Houston theatre. They had met as students at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and shared a love of theatre. Marie remained the backbone of the theatre until her death in 1988. Marie and Les's daughter, Mimi Holloway, inherited their love of theatre, and is now our Artistic Director.

Theatre Southwest has moved a few times over the decades, yet remains and thrives. It has gone from a three-play season to a season that includes six subscription plays, the Festival of Originals, a Reader's Theatre, and monthly workshops.

Don’t miss our latest production: Social Security, a hilarious Broadway comedy that surrounds a married couple, Barbara and David Kahn, who are art dealers. Their domestic tranquility is shattered upon the arrival of the wife’s goody-goody nerd of a sister, her uptight CPA husband, and her archetypal Jewish mother, who are there to try to save their college-student daughter from the horrors of living only for sex. The comic sparks really begin to fly when the mother hits it off with the elderly minimalist artist who is the art dealers’ best client.

If you feel like escaping Oxford at Country Club Apartments in Baytown, Texas for the day, this event is a perfect opportunity to do just that!
